Inside the museum there is a bat trail where children search in dimly lit rooms to see how many bats they can find—this is a bat survey like no other! The bats are hidden exactly where one might expect bats to hide. Displays explain the bats’ extraordinary biology in a way that is innovative and never boring—like these giant ears (a human would need ears this big to hear like a bat) you can turn the ears with bicycle handlebars as you search for your prey! It gives you a whole new sense of wonder about that neat little animal. In another corner there is a screen linked to the cameras in the church where you can view the maternity roost without disturbing the bats. In summer they organise bat walks here which are advertised on their website—there’s also a map showing where it is.
